UAMS and the CBBA received a very special guest for National Cord Blood Awareness Month!
Miss Arkansas, Claudia Raffo, visited UAMS today to learn more about the Cord Blood Bank of Arkansas. Claudia has raised awareness about cord blood donation around the state and has helped raise much-needed monetary donations to the CBBA.
She had a tour of the CBBA facility with Michele Fox, M.D., UAMS Professor of Pathology and Director of Cell Therapy and Transfusion Medicine; and Plummer Badger, R.N., B.S.N., Cord Blood Coordinator.
The group later had a discussion about how UAMS uses cord blood with Lindsey Sward, M.D., of the UAMS Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Sward leads the education of medical residents in cord blood collection.
Claudia will continue to speak about cord blood donation on the national level as she prepares for the Miss America pageant.
